Over 100 dead, in storm-ravaged Philippines

Almost two million people were swamped by floods in several provinces  of the countr, Aound 53 of 98 peopl, who died were from Maguindanao province.

Nearly 100 people have died as a destructive storm lashed the Philippines, with many feared missing, officials said on Monday.

Associated Press reported almost two million people were swamped by floods in several provinces, officials said Monday.

The report said around 53 of 98 people who died were from Maguindanao province.

This was the 16thstorm to hit the country this year.

 “A large contingent of rescuers with bulldozers and backhoes resumed retrieval work in southern Kusiong village in hard-hit Maguindanao, where as many as 80 to 100 people, including entire families, are feared to have been buried by a boulder-laden mudslide or swept away by flash floods that started overnight Thursday,” the report said quoting  Naguib Sinarimbo, the interior minister for the Bangsamoro autonomous region.

According to the government disaster response agency, 69 people were injured and at least 63 others remain missing.

More than 1.9 million people were lashed by the storm, including more than 975,000 villagers.
