Several Indian cities reeling under sizzling temperatures

The Barmer city in Rajasthan on Thursday recorded a maximum temperature of 48.8 C, the weather department said.
“Today 23 May, at 0530 pm the highest maximum temperature recorded was 48.8 degrees in Barmer,” Meteorological Department in Jaipur wrote on X.
Earlier, in the day, India Meteorological Department said Barmer city recorded a Maximum Temperature of 48.0°C on Wednesday.
This is the second consecutive day, Barmer is recording highest temperature in the country.
The rising temperatures comes as Local Circles, a community social media platform, said on Thursday that a survey conducted by them has found 38% of households are experiencing power outages in various parts of the country.
On Sunday, the temperatures in Delhi’s Najafgarh reached 47.8 degrees Celsius, which prompted authorities to issue instructions to shut schools for summer vacations.
Power demand in the national capital reached 8,000 Megawatts on Wednesday- the highest ever.
